Billu opens to an average collections at box office

Shah Rukh Khan’s home production Billu directed by Priyadarshan has taken an average opening in major metros cities on its opening day Friday the 13th. But reports suggest that it is doing slightly better business in the smaller centers than big cities.

The film opened on Friday to 30-40% occupancy. There was a slight improvement with evening shows but not so significant that one can call it a good opening. It has been released with in over 1000 cinema halls including 600 digital screens. If the opening weekend collections don’t touch the 75-80% mark then the film is bound to be declared a FLOP. It will face mighty opposition from next Friday’s release, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi-6.

The other release of the week, The Stoneman Murders has taken a slow opening but since its carrying very good reports, the positive word of mouth about it is spreading slowly. The weekend may see a big rise in its collections claim trade pundits.

If Billu flops it won’t affect SRK the producer as he has made a clean profit by selling all its rights to Eros but as an actor it will definitely be a blot in his career record. -Sampurn Media

Katrina Kaif sans glam & oomph!

The world's sexiest woman (2008) has decided to shed her glamourous image for her role in critically acclaimed filmmaker Prakash Jha's Rajniti. The change of image is not restricted to her wardrobe alone; Katrina will also be required to speak in a certain dialect, for which she is undergoing voice modulation classes.

Katrina Kaif said, "My role in Rajniti has different shades - I start off as a particular way and end up as a completely changed persona. The character is immensely challenging and it is a huge responsibility to carry off such a character. I am very excited to work with Prakash Jha, who is known for his kind of cinema and believes in involving himself in every department of his films. In a couple of days, I will be shooting for the film in Bhopal where I have scenes with a crowd of around 500 and I am gearing up for it."

Filmmaker Jha is helping Katrina to slip into her role by guiding her. Katrina revealed, "Prakash Jha is so involved in my characterisation that he is choosing the fabrics for the clothes for my character. He is so clued in that he knows exactly what he wants for an actor and that makes the transition of my character all the more challenging."

Ask Katrina if she is undergoing voice modulation for her character as the buzz is that she will be seen in a completely deglam look in the second part of the film and she says, "I can't reveal anything about the transition of my character but yes I am also doing the voice modulation as I need to speak in a certain way toward the end of the film." So committed is Katrina in putting her heart and soul into her role in Rajniti that she was unable to do Rohit Shetty's next film with Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Dutt. Katrina said, "It is unfortunate that I had to opt out of that film as I had date problems."

Emraan Hashmi riding high with Raaz 2 success

EmraanHashmi has done it again. Along with Bhatt brothers, he now has second straight hit in a row in the form of RAAZ - THE MYSTERY CONTINUES. After JANNAT, a lot was riding on this horror flick by Mohit Suri since a second straight success was much required for Emraan to completely establish himself in the top league. He has done that now with RAAZ - THE MYSTERY CONTINUES which has taken a much better opening than even CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA. While the Akshay Kumar starrer netted around 26 crores from it’s first week run, RAAZ - THE MYSYERY CONTINUES has brought home close to 20 crores at a much lesser print count.

Says an elated Emraan Hashmi, “The film’s success indeed means a lot to me. Horror is not a safe genre but still all of us associated with the film took this risk and gave it our all to ensure that audience gets it’s ‘paisa-vasool’ moments.”

The film now stands as the biggest opener ever for Emraan Hashmi who last year saw JANNAT seeing a 15 crore opening week. That record has been broken by RAAZ - THE MYSTERY CONTINUES and it has to be seen how far does the film go from here on.

Says Mukesh Bhatt, “No one and nothing can stop a great product from doing its magic on the audience. All the audience care about is whether the film appeals to their sensibilities and is entertaining at the same time. RAAZ - THE MYSTERY CONTINUES did just that and the figures speak for themselves.”

"I am overwhelmed with response to Luck By Chance" - Rishi Kapoor

Luck By Chance is not just a Farhan Akhtar film. Rather, it would be apt to call it a film that it is held together by three pillars - Rishi Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan and of course Farhan Akhtar himself. Though Rishi Kapoor had (modestly) attributed this Zoya Akhtar film as a Farhan Akhtar starrer, after the release of Luck By Chance one can't deny that this is as much as Rishi Kapoor film as well.

In his meatiest and most credible film ever since the release of Daraar [1996] (there have been notable films like Namastey London, Fanaa, Pyaar Mein Twist, Hum Tum but Luck By Chance easily sees him in the best written and enacted role this decade), Rishi Kapoor has come up with an endearing performance that is easily an added milestone in his four decade long film career.

Tell Rishiji about this and he says while bubbling with excitement, "It's great to see the way audience as well as media is responding to the film. Even my own industry people have responded to the film positively. Luck By Chance was meant to be a tribute to my colleagues and I am happy that everyone has taken it in the right spirit."

In the role of Rommy Rolly, Rishi Kapoor is phenomenal as an old time film producer who not just struggles to get a star hero (Hrithik Roshan) for his newly launched film but also various other entities like corporate house bigwig (Manish Acharya), heroine's mother (Dimple Kapadia), costume designer (Manish Malhotra) and financer (Boman Irani) amongst others. Still, an eternal optimistic that he is, he goes on to launch a new face (Farhan Akhtar), albeit at a peanut remuneration, and as luck would have had it, makes him a star.

Also, a close look at his mannerisms on screen makes him look like a combo of Subhash Ghai, Boney Kapoor, Gulshan Kumar amongst others. Laughs Rishiji, "I wasn't trying to spoof anyone. I would say that the characters in Luck By Chance are more cariacaturish since the behavioral traits have been imported from various sources. There are borrowed images that you would see in my character as well as others."

Though he was in Bangkok for the shoot of Kal Kissne Dekha for an entire week and is currently stationed in New Delhi for the shoot of Do Dooni Chaar, he has been cued on to the box office performance of Luck By Chance. His admirers, friends from the industry and trade sources have been calling and messaging him incessantly in appreciation of what inarguably is one of his best performances ever in a long illustrious career.

"Yes, I guess the film as well as my act has excited quite a lot of people out there", says Rishiji with a childlike enthusiasm, "I am overwhelmed with response to Luck By Chance. I am told that across the country, the film has been doing exceedingly well with every passing show even though the start was a little slow on Friday morning. Now I am just hoping that audience continues to appreciate it only further."

The film Slumdog Millionaire has been making headlines for the number of Oscar nominations that it has garnered and the Golden Globes that it has won. However, this one individual associated with this film has been blessed with success at every step that he took in his career. But he has not once taken it for granted; instead he has worked even harder to outdo himself. He is none other than A R Rahman.

This month in People magazine, musician A.R. Rahman opens up about the philosophy that makes him a great artist. The soft-spoken maestro attributes his success as much to his tremendous talent as having “ethics, commitment, passion and friendship”. After taking the international stage by storm with his score for Slumdog Millionaire, Rahman is now intent on cementing his reputation further.

Talking about his spiritual side, Rahman says, “It boosts my confidence, instills humility and detaches me from everything else.” He in fact credits his father for teaching him to respect people. “My father was a hard worker and never judged musicians by their compositions. He had great respect for them as people and I learnt the same.”

Though it is a Hollywood film that won him international acclaim (the Golden Globe and Oscar nominations), Rahman says that it is the victory of the Indian music. “My win is a win for Indian music. And I want to bring India more and more recognition in the field of music.”

And now though the world is at his feet, for Rahman family comes first. “It is too exhausting to have many films on hand. We all need a personal life. I need to spend quality time with my family.”

The magazine also features Rahman’s mother Kareema Begum, who treats the readers with an inside view of his life, “I have to send my grandchildren to the studio to remind him to have his food.” That just goes to show how committed he is towards what he is doing…

Asin to take up Anushka’s role

With Ghajini breaking all the box office records and raking mullah, Asin seems to have grabbed a few eyeballs even with the lack of proper publicity she deserved for the movie. She is currently busy with Vipul Shah’s London Dreams and is also contemplating on other projects

Another possible venture that could fall in her kitty is the Hindi remake of the Telugu hit Arundati. The movie is a joint venture co-produced by Geetha Arts, producers of Ghajini, and Ram Gopal Verma’s close ally Madhu. The producers were quoted as saying that Asin is considered as the probable actor for the role that was donned by Anushka in Telugu. “Other details will be revealed soon,” a source from producer’s side asserted

Exclusive: Shruti Hassan to make her ad film debut replacing Amrita Rao

Kamal Hassan and Sarika’s eldest daughter, Shruti Hassan will be making her debut with a TV commercial before the big screen one. Shruti has recently shot for an ice cream commercial for the brand Walls. Her first ever ad campaign features along with her young musician cum actor Raghav Sachar who is known for giving music to films like Kabul Express and One Two Three. However, it is learnt that Shruti has replaced Amrita Rao in the ad campaign.

Our source informs, "This particular TV commercial was earlier supposed to feature Amrita Rao with Pakistani band Jal singer Farhan Saeed. But with the diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan having turned sour post the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and there being a ban called upon by local political parties on Pakistani artists, the makers thought it would be best to replace the whole concept and rope two totally fresh faces. Shruti was therefore chosen without any audition and since her background too is music, the makers thought a musical personality would suit her perfectly. Musician Raghav who is actually the music director of this very commercial was roped in at the last minute. It is learnt that the post production for the ad is presently on and it shall be on air in a few days time."

Shruti is presently shooting for Soham Shah’s Luck opposite Imran Khan and also for Leena Yadav’s Teen Patti starring Amitabh Bachchan and R. Madhavan. Raghav who had given music to films like Yash Raj’s Kabul Express and One Two Three is also planning to make a career in acting and has been taking acting classes. He was supposed to star in the Manzar song in Sunday but was replaced by Tusshar Kapoor.

Farah Khan is turning actor for Milap Zaveri’s film ‘Jaane Kahan Se Aayi’. Interestingly Farah plays a filmmaker in the movie, and Ritiesh Deshmukh her assistant.

In the film Farah doesn’t treat her assistant well and constantly insults him, so much so that once when he brings her some chai , she doesn’t like it too much and spits it onto his face.

Poor Ritiesh! It took all of three re-takes till the shot was okayed. But Rits, we hear, was too sporting. So we’re giving him the chai-nese award. Yay!

The mehendi ceremony will be on 4th march and the sangeet ceremony on March 5. Amrita Arora wanted that her marriage should be in a church, therefore marriage will be in a church on 6th March.

Bipasha bags Kareena's role

Bipasha Basu has been chosen to star opposite Hollywood actor Billy Zane, in music-director-turned-producer Tabun's next project. Sources also tell us that Kareena Kapoor was the initial choice for the role, but Bips was chosen instead.

This will be Bipasha's first international project. Yes, Kareena has got a few offers, but the girl has so much on her plate that there's no place for a Hollywood 'dish'.

However, with Bipasha and Kareena's infamous enmity, the war between these two damsels just got stronger, with Bips having stepped into her shoes, even though she didn't quite want to wear them!

Ash obsessed with Abhishek professionally?

Post marriage there were rumours in the industry circles that Aishwarya Rai will prefer to do films only with hubby Abhishek Bachchan. The couple was earlier seen in films like Kuch Naa Kaho, Umrao Jaan, Guru and Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar Raj paired opposite each other.

It seems the rumours to some extent are ringing true if one looks at her next line up of releases. While she has three films with hubby Abhishek she has only one film signed opposite another star, Akshay Kumar.

Presently the couple is shooting for Mani Ratnam's Ravana in jungles of Madhya Pradesh at a virgin locale called, Orcha. Post that film, both are slated to star in Ad filmmaker Abhinay Deo's next after Delhi Belly.

The yet untitled film is said to be a action thriller which will be shot extensively in Greece, Thailand, Istanbul and London. Besides Ash and Abhi, Boman Irani has been finalised but rest of the cast is yet to be decided.

Next they have been approached by filmmaker Rajiv Menon's Sur which will be a remake of yesteryear classic Abhimaan but the project is still undecided.

The Akshay Kumar that she has signed is a Vipul Shah production and will have her playing mother to a 13 year old kid. One can recollect her refusing Karan Johar's Dostana.

SRK’s mineral hair

SRK’s hair are the best in the industry and have been his constant companions since his hey days, but the reason behind his silky locks is that he washes them with mineral water.

A source says, “His hair reacts badly to hard water. He has a condition where his hair gets hard and loses its shine if he doesn’t take good care of it.

And you can’t have a bad hair day while shooting, so he only uses bottled water in such cases.”

Apparently SRK had his share of bad hair days when he washed his hair with hard water while shooting Paheli and from that day onwards he has been extra careful about his hair.

His stylist says, “It’s important for styling that hair be washed with regular water.

In the past, SRK’s hair got damaged when he used well water while shooting in remote locations during Paheli. After that, he has learned to be careful.

As an actor, you are in the business of looking good, so you better take care of your skin, body and hair. Also it affects the look and continuity in the film and he doesn’t want to take any risks.”

During the recent shoot of Billu Barber, SRK made it a point to have an ample supply of mineral water specially for his bath.

Aamir testifies in an under-age driving case

Aamir Khan is a responsible citizen, now the perfectionist Khan is showing his responsibilities by testifying an under-age driving case, where a 15-year-old boy injured an 83-year-old man while driving his father’s bike who later succumbed to his injuries.

Aamir Khan who was passing by the same place witnessed the accident and sent his body-guards to help the old man.

The young boy has been charged under Indian Penal Code for rash driving.

DCP Niket Kaushik says, “We have recorded the statement of Aamir Khan and three other people associated with him as they are the only witnesses in the case.”

“We had intimated him that we needed to record his statement as a witness in the case. Aamir Khan was very cooperative and called others too to his residence for recording of the statement .He is the prime witness in the case and has agreed to co-operate fully when the trial starts,” said another officer.

Bipasha and Katrina are not friends

Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif have co-starred in two films now (Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye and Race), and you would think the hot girls would get along like house on a fire. Aishwarya forbids Abhishek to work with Rani! Top Bollywood star kid Abhishek Bachchan has refused a guest appearance in a Yash Raj film, it has been reported. According to some Indian newspapers, Abhishek Bachchan was approached by Yash Raj head Aditya Chopra for a small but essential role in the Rani Mukherjee and Shahid Kapoor starrer. A source reveal, “Abhishek was offered a small but significant role in the Yash Raj banner project the shooting for which has already begun now. He declined the offer due to Rani Mukherjee. He now does not work with Rani after his marriage with Aishwarya Rai. He had earlier done a cameo in their Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007) opposite Rani so it was taken for granted that he would say yes”.Abhishek Bachchan’s refusal is being blamed on his wife Aishwarya Rai. Another source says, “Apparently, Aishwarya is jealous of Rani as Rani was expected to marry Abhishek in past time”.

Salman leaves Kat for an auto-rickshaw!

Salman Khan undoubtedly is one of the most colourful characters in the tinsel town. Be it cycling to his film sets of zooming on his bike at night, Salman has done it all. On Friday night the Bollywood hunk was in a very adventurous mood and drove a auto rickshaw leaving behind lady love Katrina Kaif with the auto driver in his car.

The incident occurred when Salman and Katrina came to dine at the Olive. When the couple were about to leave the restaurant Salman got this bizarre idea of driving an auto rickshaw. He pulled up an auto from the street and the driver was more than happy to hand over his keys to the actor. Salman zoomed in the empty streets of Mumbai followed by Katrina in his car accompanied by the auto driver.

This is not the first time Salman has driven an auto. Having done it several times in the past he seemed in total control of the three wheeler. Only Salman could have thought of such an adventure idea at the middle of the night. The lucky man turned out to be the auto driver having got a chance to sit next to Katrina Kaif in a luxury car. Salman Khan’s new teacher is Aamir Khan

The buzz is that the perfectionist Aamir khan is ready to become a new teacher for non none other than Salman Khan. It is said that the marketing of the film ‘Ghajini’ has influenced Salman Khan a lot and he wants to learn marketing techniques from Aamir Khan for his upcoming film ‘Wanted:Dead or Alive’. The film will be directed by Boney Kapoor.

And Aamir Khan is in a zone of his own. Anyway, Aamir is most fascinated with the epic ‘Mahabharat’, so much so that he’d love to be a part of something similar and grand one day.

But it’s not that easy. “If given a chance, I’d like to play Karna. But in Mahabharat, they all are Kshatriyas, six feet tall… And so well-built. I would not fit into any of the warrior type roles. I’m so short. The only role that will suit me is that of Krishna’s.”
